Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Chimney Cleaning Before & After in Fort Lauderdale, FL
A clean chimney doesn’t announce itself. No curb appeal change, no lifestyle upgrade you can show the neighbors. What changes is what you can’t see: the flue walls, the smoke chamber, the damper assembly. That’s why every Flint Chimney Co job includes a camera inspection report, so you see exactly what we removed and exactly what’s left behind. The transformations below are real scenarios from Fort Lauderdale homes. The kind of stuff we pull out of chimneys here surprises people.

Heavy Creosote Removal in a Victoria Park Fireplace
Before
AfterA homeowner in Victoria Park called us after two winters of burning unseasoned oak from a big-box store. The flue had close to a quarter inch of black, tar-like creosote on all four walls. Our technician ran a full mechanical sweep with a rotary head, then scrubbed the smoke chamber by hand. The after-photo from the camera inspection shows bare clay tile. The homeowner told us the draft improved enough that the living room stopped smelling like a campfire an hour after the fire went out.
Bird Nest and Debris Removal in Sailboat Bend
Before
AfterIn Sailboat Bend, a homeowner reported smoke pouring back into the house every time they lit a fire. The camera inspection found a fully built bird nest about six feet down from the crown, plus twigs and dried palm fibers jammed below it. We removed the nest by hand with a specialized grabber, swept the entire flue, and capped the top with a proper rain-and-bird guard. Smoke now draws straight up. No more fledgling evacuation drills in the living room. That homeowner booked an annual sweep before the job was even done.
Stage Three Creosote Glaze in Rio Vista
Before
AfterRio Vista home. Gas logs had been installed years before, but the previous owner burned wood for a decade and nobody ever swept it. The flue had what we call stage three creosote; hardened, shiny, and baked onto the tile liner. A standard brush won’t touch that. We used a chemical treatment to break down the glaze, waited the manufacturer’s specified dwell time, then ran a rotary sweep. The after-photo shows tile that looks almost new. The damper had been frozen open by the buildup, and it now closes the way it should.
Damper Replacement After Years of Neglect in Coral Ridge

A Coral Ridge client bought a 1960s ranch and wanted the fireplace checked before their first fire. The damper plate had rusted through in one corner, which let air-conditioned air pour out of the house all summer. We removed the old damper assembly, fitted a new top-sealing damper, and did a full flue sweep while we were in there. The before-photo shows rust flaking off the throat. The after shows a clean opening with smooth operation from the handle. Their energy bill comment the following month: “Noticeably different.”
Soot and Ash Clearance in a Tarpon River Condo

Tarpon River condo with a prefab metal fireplace. The previous owners used it as a party feature and never cleaned it. We pulled two full bags of fine soot out of that flue. The smoke shelf, the upper chamber, the cap screen; all of it needed work. A standard sweep plus a hand-cleaning of the smoke chamber took care of it. The after-photo from our camera shows clean metal all the way up. The new owner said it was the first time they’d used the fireplace without the smoke alarm joining the conversation.
Wind-Driven Rain Investigation in Middle River Terrace

Heavy Fort Lauderdale rain kept finding its way into a Middle River Terrace fireplace. The crown had hairline cracks and the flashing was pulling away from the chase. Water had been running down the flue walls and mixing with creosote to form a paste that sat in the smoke chamber. We cleaned the entire system, then repaired the crown and resealed the flashing. The before-photo shows water staining. The after shows dry flue walls and no drips after the next thunderstorm came through. That repair carried the written 365-Day Done Right Promise like everything else we do.
